Question Pontiac G8

I received a "cold call" email today from a local GM dealer.

Quote:
$6500.00 Cash Credit!

OR

0% Finance for as much as 72 months!

AND

A Maintenance Package for 36 months/60,000 km!

PLUS a two (2) year subscription of OnStar

with Directions and Connections!

PLUS a two (2) year subscription for

XM Satellite Radio!

OR

$1000.00 Cash Alternative!
What do people think ?

I am not really in the car market just yet.
With "deals" like this, it is so tempting !

I was originally thinking the earliest would be summer of '10.
But the way the economy & the stock market is...was thinking of delaying (unless a deal came along).

GM Canada says right now: Cash Purchase Price for a Pontiac G8 GT is
from $28,898 (From $37,450 MSRP)

I really want a Pontiac G8 GXP though.
When will GM Canada announce the pricing up here ?!

Should I get a car this year/summer; or wait until next year ?
Would you buy one now; being a first year run ?

PS: If I cash in some investments...I will take a 33% hit/lost on it.
I do have access to funds (credit) to pay "cash" too.
or
Take them up on their "0% Finance for as much as 72 months!"; but lose the cash pricing discount incentive.

That's a pretty good deal. I'd go for it. Too bad I won't be around for the next midwest meet otherwise I'd say lemme take it for a test drive if you come by

Not a consideration...

When I plan to own it over a long term period.

Just look at my GA, I had it since June '98.

I think its a good deal. Its not really a true "first year", since the car pretty much existed in Australia already and has just been tweaked.

Plus, I want to see what tires you put on it

I agree with Rich. You'll wish you had opted for the GXP considering any GXP is so rare in Toronto anyways, you'll def stand out.

GXP isn't visibly much different than GT, and I've heard from lots of people that the GT is plenty of juice. Besides, use the money for a S/C or headers/cam

Sounds like a Good Deal, If you Truly want a GXP then Wait it out. If you can "get by" with a G8 GT i would say go For it. I would say take the 0% for 72. That's at least 6k in savings right there.

It is very tempting with some of the deal's right now. I was looking just to find a Bargain, until my company said we have 6 more Weeks. So needless to say that ended.

I doubt Mike would get the GXP new, because those things will depreciate by about 15grand as soon as he drives it off the lot. That's a car you buy used in a recessed economy.

NSA you forget, not everyone is a car whore like you and slo, some of us hold onto vehicles for longer than a few months..some maybe hold onto them for 5+ years. I know, it's weird hearing that, but it does happen..

Who cares about depreciation anymore? All cars have huge depreciation once you drive them off the lot. As long as its a car you like then its worth more to you than anyone else. My grand am was $23,000 in 2004. And I am sure you all can guess what is worth now. Thats the risk you take when buying a car. I would still hold out for the gxp.

Ha, yeah, I don't really grasp the concept of keeping a car for more than like... 2 years I guess.

I would NOT drive that car in the winter time without winter tires.

According to GM Canada:
You can get optional 19" wheels with summer tires (Bridgestone Potenza RE050A).

I would probably keep the tires that come on it; & let them burn/wear out naturally. Then replace them.

& for winter tires, get maybe:

Nokian Hakkapeliitta R

Even email replied back to the guy for more info on when the GXP pricing is/available.

Cars up here don't seem to depreciate as much on the used market in the Toronto area.

Plus buying used losses any cash incentives, like $7500 Cdn or promotional financing rates, like 0% over 72 months.

Speaking of which, I was lined up at the lights opposite a G8 the other day. It flew off the line and just screamed past me. The exhaust note was similar to a choir of angels.

Granted, it was just a GT, but still.

Don't forget to run German Castrol oil when you get it.
