very true about the engine and ive seen those videos before but i was saying about the engineering failures and many wonders this car is about, sometimes i believe thier should be a survival guide for this car for all the failures and fustaring moments, im not here to offend anyone but this car is a piece of **** and should not be modded, never the less be taught of as a racer type.

2. having the parts made in mexico isnt wrong, you said theyre american built, not american made. this car is not the reason GM is going bankrupt. its people like you spreading your slander and lies about why you THINK this is the problem, and thats scarring the consumers away. not only that, but its the economy too, did you not read the toyota thread? 3. In my personal opinion, "Modifying" is too broad of a term to ask the presented question. they may not be the fastst on the road, but the can be modified to outhandle a lot of cars on the road. i like to tinker with things,it just so happens that i had the GA to do it with. i had fun building up my spare 3400 with the small amount of parts that i gathered. id do it again too if i got the chance. so yes, in my eyes the Grand Am IS worth modifying. and by the way. the 3.3 was a 90 degree v6. /Rant

I may be a newbie here but I have something to say on this. I see a lot of people trashing their own rides in this thread...WTF?!?! If you don't like your ride this is not the place for you. this is a forum for people who like their rides.
Modding any car is an expression of individuality and is usually done for the same reasons someone gets a tattoo or a mohawk hairdo. modding purely for speed is the exception, not the rule since even those who have speed in mind usually do some external mods. And F.Y.I. GM is closing down pontiac so these cars will be as collectible as a desoto one day sooner than you think. These cars are the last cars EVER to have the name GRAND AM we can make people think of these cars as being closer to edsels or closer to corvettes. That is up to us. To anyone who thinks modding the n - body GA is a waste of time..... you clearly don't know what you are talking about and should study up or shut the f*** up. I'm not a mechanic but when I bought my GAGT I did some homework. Even talking to Milzy over at milzy motorsports on the phone (Great Guy!) as well as several other people who have experience modding vehicles that are less than obvious choices. They all basically agreed that this platform could be brought up to 650HP and remain street legal. now with more companies offering aftermarket parts this goal is getting easier to reach and as more people try to reach this type of goal the more people will want to mod this platform which in turn will lead to more companies creating parts for the platform and on it will go. So again EITHER STUDY UP OR SHUT THE F*** UP! I could go on about this but i'll stop. the point is, if you don't like your car GET A NEW ONE, THIS FORUM IS SUPPOSED TO BE A PLACE FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE THEIR RIDES SO IF YOU DON'T, GO SOMEPLACE ELSE OR START A FORUM FOR PEOPLE THAT HATE OWNING THESE CARS BUT ARE TOO STUPID TO MAKE A CHANGE. Sorry to be so harsh but I thought this had to be said. Last edited by beelzebob; 05-31-2009 at 11:44 AM. |

I like my ride.... but I don't own a Grand Am anymore. Had I known then what I know now, I would have spent substantially less on my Grand Am and waited to mod something with more potential. But hey, I still loved my Grand Am. It just wasn't built to be FAST.

Why twin turbo over single turbo? I had a hell of a time routing a single turbo in the engine bay, I'm interested how you would plan on fitting twins.

haven't some people already done this? 2 little single turbo's compared to a big single turbo... i think it's about the same gains

If you are starting out with the notion that "I have to have a 12 second car," and don't have the patience, by all means, plunk down the cash in advance for one. Quote:
Then I got a '65 442, when everybody said, "Whut's that, ya shoulda got a Super Bee." I could have, didn't want to. So that got modded as well, and was a sleeper for back then. Could I have spent less money in the process? Maybe. But I wouldn't really do it much differently if I had it to do over. And look at it this way -- if you buy a GTO, you almost HAVE to mod it.... or you just might wind up getting beat by a GrandAm.

It won't happen. Why spend nearly twice as much money just to have two when you will get the same results with just one?
