built trans

I got quoted for 1700-1800$ to have my trans built, including DIFF, H-STall tc, clutch plates, valve body work, accum. pistons etc etc...

Sound like a fair deal? I told them Roughly 300-350 whp.

600$ for labor but they like to do a road test, They want to try to put my tune back to stock, so Should I just get my stock calibrations for all transmission stuff and put it back to stock?

that is def not a price including ANY type of perf stall. a perf stall with TCC is going to run anywhere north of $400 or more. i would ask what stall they are giving you.

I am seriously thinking about this myself for a future project... I think that is a steal! Who are you going through?

That sounds very low, especially for everything they claim will be included. I paid $1580 JUST in parts for mine. That didn't include any labor, and that was with my Dad's discount at the dealership for the factory parts I replaced. That also was with a stock TC and no aluminum accumulator pistons. I think you should be looking at more over $2000.

I also wouldn't go too high a stall on the TC. I was reading somewhere recently (maybe over on 60v6?) that turbo cars don't like high stalls because it doesn't load the engine and allow it to build boost as early or something like that. It will also kill your gas mileage.

As for the tune... I sure wouldn't go back to stock trans settings if it was me. Stock trans settings are meant to "save" the stock trans if the PCM sees too much torque or anything it classifies as "abuse". It's not programmed for a built trans that can handle it. You need all that torque abuse stuff turned off... otherwise it's going to reduce the line pressure on your shifts and you'll burn the **** out of your brand new clutch plates and glaze them!

it will also pull timing at the top of the gear and a whole bunch of other retareded things. 86 the tq management is 1st on a trans tune .

I'm going through AAMCO, they seemed pretty legit and repitable. I'm calling again tomarrow because I have a few more questions.

So by valve body work, do they mean replacing the valve body (that's what I had done) or customizing it? I never knew AAMCO did that kind of work? And what kind of diff are they going to put in, an LSD or a new stock one? My race LSD from EP was $650 alone after the core return. Another reason the estimate sounds low to me.

Not really sure, They said they were going to use upgraded parts as much as they if they can get it, and valve body most likely replacing, they said the shifts will be a lot better with the power i have.

Ok, cause I know GM did make changes to the Valve Body, pressure regulator valve, and the 2-3 accumulator valve and bore for 2002-2003 4T45E. When I had my '00 trans rebuilt those were incorporated.

For a 95-01 trans they need to get overhaul kit #24224525. That includes all this stuff "A new solid (non-cross drilled) pressure regulator valve, and the new style spacer plate, all gaskets, seals, and plates. Note: When Valve body part number 24224399 is used, you must use spacer plate and gasket kit number 24224336." That's all according to a service doc from GM anyway that Tejohnson sent me back in '06.
