New here with a few questions

Thanks for the forum add btw.

Anyways I have been an owner of a 2001 Grand Am GT for a while now and I just got some money and time to do some work I've always wanted to do on it!

So here is what I plan on getting sometime this month.

-
Halo Projector Headlights

-Tail lights

-3rd Brake Light

- 2 6000k HID kits for Hi/Low beams
- Possible third kit for Foglights, also looking for good projector fogs
- Pioneer 2-DIN HU nav unit

If anyone has any experience with any of these specific products please let me know. I've done quite a bit of research and will list what I know so far, but I would appreciate any info, tips, and advice seasoned Grand Am tuners can give.

What I know :

The Headlight Projectors I have picked out will require more than a simple plug and play HOW TO: Install halo headlights and I am fine with this. I do want to make sure however if it will work in a 01 GT. I see so many sellers list it as "WILL NOT FIT GT MODEL" I assume they say that due to the reason I have to cut the plastic housing to get it to fit, but is there something else that would cause them to list that?

I would also like to ask if HIDs work well in these projectors. I would NEVER put HIDs in a reflector headlight but I am unsure if these particular projector headlights can use these well, IE not melt due to higher temps and refract the light incorrectly. I know all aftermarket HID kits are not DOT approved but I would like to hear some experience with these Headlights and HIDs if anyone has any.

Also should I consider anything else for installing these Headlights, like sealant and relay for HIDs?

Now to the HU, if anyone has any experience with this unit or any other suggestions please let me know! Here are the main things I was looking for when I posted a thread a while back on some other forums.

Must haves :
- Touch Screen
- Ipod support, USB support, Bluetooth support
- Double Din
- Able to use an External Hard Drive as a media storage device.

Wants :
- Steering wheel control support
- Clean looking unit
- Well done/Good looking UI

The Pioneer is PERFECT (still pending on information on Hard drive) but its very expensive and its one step below getting a carputer or custom building a PC myself to fit in the car (which I may do in a few years)

Opinions and Suggestions are welcome. I would have posted the bulk of this in a few threads specific to the topic (and I will if it's preferred) but I am not big on making a ton of threads if its not needed.

Like I said any tips and information will be appreciated, I am new to car tuning but I have allot of experience with electronics and some mechanical work so this upgrading should go well. I am just one to make sure I know exactly what I am getting myself into.

Here is my experience Got Headlights and Tails

I did not need to cut anything. I would however suggest a HID kit from some other vender then I got. I am not as happy with them. DDM Tuning has some great kits. I got a few of them for friends and I and they are happy with them.

With the head unit..I assume you have a 1.5 DIN opening, so you'll have to modify that to make a double DIN work.

I believe it is a 2 DIN opening. If I recall correctly isn't 1 din 2 inches? My opening is 4" X 7.5" roughly, the rounded corners may get in the way.

Ah so I should go for 9006 HIDs and not H1s? I plan on getting two for both Hi and Low beams. Want to make 100% sure on what to get before purchasing.

Take a look at the post I made regarding my projectors, If you already have the projectors see which set you have, if not you can buy the ones that have the features you like.

Yeah I did, not the same headlights but I am sure they are very similar. I've decided to get the headlights first and install them. Then once that is done I'll look into HIDs for that setup, that and it will give me more time to collect information to make sure I make the right buy.

Now I gotta search like crazy for projector FOGs and anything that may make my backup lights brighter, things are horrible atm.

Backups you can get superbright leds, or put a set of driving lights in the round back up lights spot.

Not really digging either of them. But dont let that stop you, I like the style I have am not fond of the roundness in that style.

There are a few other styles and lens options too if you search led tails on there.

I have 6000k HID's in black housing headlights. The color and light output is better than halogen bulbs but the light pattern is definitely messed up. They don't glare as bad as stock housings though which have more chrome. I've heard the beam pattern with HID in those after market projectors is even worse though so I wouldn't do it. You really need a projector designed for an HID bulb, which unfortunately means retrofitting a unit from headlights for another car.

Man here is the very first mod I thought of when I got the car.

Does anyone else know of that HUMP in the middle back seat if you have a 4 door? I was wondering if there was anything under that. It is annoying and I really never carry more the 3 people in my car (excluding me) So I was thinking of putting something useful there...
