fuel pump or ..... ?????

Afternoon gentlemen, i have a friend thats about 100 + miles away that just bought a 2003 grand am with the 3.4 in it about two weeks ago with 100 thousand miles, well since i just purchased one about 5 months ago he thinks i know everything about them ..., anyhow,he was driving late last night, the fuel light came on and died, now it wont start up, the security light isn't flashing,is there a kill/safety switch on the pump or relay, other than possibly the pump going out,is there any other options?/

THANKS

ok when you run out of gas the car will turn off,

ok really when he goes to put gas in it. turn the key to on but not start. then back off. do this a few times. it will "prime" the car kinda. allowing the fuel to go through the lines and to the engine. if he puts gass in and it still doesnt start check the fuel filter. when takeng that off gas should pour out a little, if it doesnt then its most likey the pump at that point. this all happened to me around 75000. except i didnt run out of gas.
