Question Parking brake button?

I took my GA in for an inspection the other day, and they go to test the ebrake by pulling on the lever, and it doesnt stay up. The ebrake was working but the lever would not stay up, or click. Ive probably never used the thing, but the button looks like its sticking out some.. I've taken the center console out, but it seems as though the whole assembly may have to be replaced.. Is there an easier way or simple fix?

Maybe some pics or info on what has to come off? it almost looks as tho the shifter also has to be removed?? The haynes manual is geared more towards the malibu's with the parking brake pedal so its not much help...
