It does do both. I'm not an electrical engineer, but I imagine it's probably using a switch of some kind or looking for a specific voltage at the PCM or BCM maybe... I'm not going to take the time to look it up. Mine works just fine and I have no desire to change it out for LED's. Sufficient to say its on the same electrical circuit and works fine in factory form, but when you change out for the LED's you are changing something with the electrical current on that circuit and mess up it's operation.

it is measuring the amount of resistance, which would indicate it also acts as a way to tell if a bulb burns out. no resistance means a bulb filament is not there, I do not know why they would tie that to the cc though, as most people would not understand why the cc doesnt work and never bother to check the brake lights

Looks very good, though I might be a tad biased as they are the ones I have.

Can anyone else confirm that the impala LED third brake light mod doesn't affect cruise control?

I believe that unit had resistors in it. If not, let me know, I still have 4 more resistors I stuck in the connector for my eBay light, brought cruise right back.

If all your bulbs are led, you'll need a resistor on it, but if you're still incandescent bulbs for brakes, it won't matter anyway.

Yeah I have the impala led third brake light mod on my car, they do have many resistors built into it. I've had it installed in my car for a few months without any issues. Today my Cruise Control was acting funky however when I restarted my car it resolved the issue. I don't think it had anything to do with the third brake light, I was just curious.

Right on. every now and again if I leave the key "on" while getting gas or something, then go to start it, makes the car mad and the trac lock light comes on, and something else, shut it off, and restart, goes away. done it about 4 times in 6 years, i worry none
