Best Place to put an exhaust cutout

i hear guys and girls on this site say you get no gains or you wont notice anything with an cut out.
for those who have them, whats the best place on the exhaust system to put a cutout. and what difference have you noticed.

You're not boosted, so it's 100% useless.

i've got one, just for noise.

when you have a serious power build, then you put the cutout before the catalytic converter.
the biggest restriction in the grand am's exhaust system is the headers, or "log manifolds"
the second major restriction is the cat. that's why people upgrade to real headers, and the more serious ones put a cut out in front of the cat. but you'd do just fine by replacing the cat with a high-flowing model.

it's been proven that cut outs only made a 1% gain on a 300whp grand am.

Its hard to say what i gained from just a cutout since after i had mine installed, a more free flowing intake was also installed and a few minor tweaks. But according to mike, the car did produce the same amount of power with 2 less pounds of boost before one of the spark plugs fouled, so it was never dynoed at full boost.

It kept blowing out spark. It was a really hot day compared to the org. day we got your 400 number.

The cutout on your car was very much needed.

I sound like a dweeb in the video.

so your saying even with the few mods i plan to add ( pacesetter 2.5 exhaust, c.a.i. custom pcm and 65 mm tb, a cutout would do nothing for me because im not boosted.

on another note, i understand i get a small bump (1-5 hp maybe more, but how much torque will be added? anyone?

what do you mean you'll get a small bump?

from the exhaust, CAI, and chip? you might get 10 hp if it's a decent tune. the throttle body doesn't make a difference at this level. it made no change in how my car felt.

no idea how much torks you get .

With the above mods, you probably wont gain much of anything using an exhaust cutout. Plus with the exhaust cutout, the exhaust system is mute since it will bypass it when the cutout is opened. If you are going for performance, then save your money for something else.....ie headers. Headers are a huge choking point on these engines.

by little bump i mean gaining decimals of hp.

okay so if a go the way for the headers, im doing a lx9 swap b4 any upgrade is done will these upgraded headers fit? or do i have to customize mold and fab

also the lx9 is the reason why i want 65mm tb. so in order to get my throttlebody to be relevant. wat mods would make it s0.
