the last number is hot weight... so the thicker it is, the more heat it can transfer and the better it can protect...basically.

however, that oil has to go through little galleys in the engine, and it is designed (for the 3.4) for 5w30, so it will support 30 as the last number when it's warm.

in THEORY you could run 30w in it, straight weight, there is room in the engine for it to flow WHEN ITS WARM, so if you kept the engine at 180* or up (near operating temp), it would be fine.

So the 0-30 vs 5-30 vs 10-30 is all cold temp difference, or how well the oil flows at cold temps. Remember, Mike Jung runs Mobil1 0-30 due to the extreme cold up in the great white north, so when it's really cold, the oil gets up and lubricates quickly, and as it warms, it thickens, and is 30 weight.

If you wanted warm weather protection, you'd want 5-40, so at startup the oil gets to where it needs to be, and then it runs thicker once warm, at a 40 weight rather than 30, which our engine is NOT designed to flow, it can burn up the sending unit, pump, seals, gaskets, not flow correctly through the internal galleys and you can lose a motor over it. it's pretty unlikely, but running the wrong weight is bad.
so what do you run? 5w-30?

diesels yes but gas engines NO..

i used 15w40 for a brief time when i got the cam and new lifters installed. works pretty good as a break in oil..

don't ever think of running that in the winter in a n/a engine. get's pretty thick. i had a little bit left over on the bench and went to use some for lubing an o-ring and easy flowing it was not..

5w30 year round. the first number only matters when it's cold out.

Not surprisingly, no tire places were open. So the OZs aren't mounted yet. Gonna have to wait until next Saturday then.

Still, got my 20% tint done. One month was far too long without my privacy.

Cleaned up for the work week's travels.

Installed my LED backup lights as well. Another item off the LED swap checklist. Remaining are:
>trunk light
>glovebox light
>interior MAP lights (right in front on the mirror)
>main dome light
>door courtesy lights

I found a set of "LED Light Bars" that autozone sells that I got a LOOOOONG time ago when I used to work for them. Thinking about utilizing them as under hood lights for when I need to get in there during the night.

Looking at Tokico blues w/Eibach springs for some low. Don't need to be slammed like some of the goofy looking 7th gens on the Accord forums.

I thought you worked at a wheel/tire place? Can't you install them there?
