Any pictures of it facing a wall? I'm guessing there's a lot more glare than you might imagine.... I wouldn't drive around with those on unless there wasn't any traffic.

Regardless, like the post i made on GAOC. HIDs dont blind u THAT bad until you look directly at them, which if u do that, its ur own fault. As long as u keep ur eyes on the road ahead of u you're fine, from my experience going head on seeing HIDs. From the 2 hours of driving with them at night i wasnt flashed once.

And not blinding "THAT bad"? ANY amount is ridiculously dangerous. All it takes is one second for someone driving towards you to be blinded, and someone could be killed. If it's something you ONLY use on empty roads (think- high beams), that's one thing. If they're on while you're around other cars, it is unsafe. I don't understand how people justify putting HID's into non-projector housings... it's basically saying that having additional light output from your car (GA's are not that bad stock) is more important than the saftey of other drivers. There's a reason it's illegal. But, I digress. Back to the thread.

Nonetheless doesn't blind me when I've seen them myself from another oncoming car. Here's my post from GAOC. In the end, people will do it regardless, flame them or not. Deal with it or take my advice and just don't look straight at the dam lights. Be happy that I don't plan on getting HIDs in my headlights. Like I said, that photo doesn't do them justice, the photo is misleading in the sense of the "glare," which there is close to none, if it where a % I would say 5%-10% of glare compared to others that are in headlights that have much more, but I guess seeing it with my own young eyes makes me a liar .Quote:

When I had HIDs, they were 35W in my black housings @6000K. I had people drive my car to see how bad the glare was, inside and outside of other cars. It wasn't bad, but that's because of the headlights I had, coupled with a less intense wattage, glare was minimum, and even then, wasn't distracting. If the headlights were normal crystal style, you can bet glare would be worse with the increased reflectivity from the housing itself.

Window tint does not affect the safety of other drivers, not sure why you think they are comparable. It's not flaming- it’s trying to correct something that is dangerous, and many people don't seem to realize just how bad it can be for other drivers. And your advice to "don't look at the lights".... where exactly should someone look when driving down the road? If two cars are going opposite directions down a two-way road, they can't exactly look away from the road in front of them just because the other cars' lights are shining in their eyes. If that picture is "misleading", then by all means, take a picture up against a wall and prove that it doesn't shine into the eyes of oncoming drivers. Your "young" eyes give you better judgment than others? You're assuming that I never experimented with HIDs in a GA... which is, of course, incorrect. I tried 6ks in the factory housings, in black housings, and in projector housings... the projectors made a huge difference (though not perfect since they were technically halogen projectors), but I didn't like the look, so I went back to my black housings and halogen bulbs. I realize that people are going to do it anyways, just as there are people who drink and drive, or drive 100+mph, or don't wear a seatbelt. However, I refuse to just sit silently while people slap HID's in every light they have on their car. It is illegal, it is dangerous, and it is nothing but a cheap way of modding your car. If you can't do it correctly, then don't do it at all. ![]()

Trust me I don't need pictures, I've seen it all and heard it all. I'm sticking with my halogen bulbs in my headlights and my HID fog lights. Whether or not I have HIDs be happy I don't have some in my headlight also. I've seen people MUCH more deadly trucks with HIDs in their housings then my fogs. Not trying to compare a car to a truck but the trucks who put HIDs in their fogs and heads and then never re-aim them are the worst out there, I'd talk to them first. Goes back to the old saying, its my car and in the end I'll do what I want. The illegal part is really irrelevant to me seeing as I've rarely heard of people in Missouri getting pulled over for HIDs. The cops in Missouri care about "illegal" HIDs just as they do illegal tint, which is not much. I'm keeping them and they're staying how they are. You don't have to deal with seeing me and getting annoyed since I'm in MO so don't worry, disregarding other people with HIDs.

If you don't want to take pictures showing that there is not glare, that's fine... but don't continue saying that there isn't glare unless you're prepared to prove it. And I'm not picking on you, either... I've been against HIDs in halogen housings on EVERY vehicle for a number of years... it just so happens that this is a Grand Am forum. Like I said, I probably won't convince anyone to switch, I'm just trying to educate others before they make an ill-informed decision. I think I'm going to start an HID thread in the "all-show" section, if anyone would like to discuss this further.

Window tint isn't illegal either. Saying that simply makes you sound like a moron.
![]() Window tinting... how dark and which windows... is dictated by state law and varies from state to state. Up in Michigan, you can have the rear window and rear side windows tinted as dark as you want, but the front side windows can only be tinted to 4" down from the top edge. Here in Florida you can tint the entire front side window, but the tint can only be so dark. It pays to research a topic before commenting on it.
