Yep, even the base level economy cars today make the latest year models of GA's look cheap I guess. As big of a proponent of ABS, and traction control as GM was, it's hard to believe they made it optional on the GA's after '01.

Probably wanted to minimize the probability of the speed sensors in the wheel hubs failing all the time and disabling the abs. Can't fail if the system doesn't exist right?

I'm thinking they knew the end was coming, and so they cheapened up as much as they could get away with. mixing Alero parts and all, not sticking badges on the sides ... you name it

I guess that's one way to look at it. Can't have a problem with a system that doesn't exist.

That's probably closer to the true reason, IMHO. I still think GM will regret killing Pontiac in the end. A lot of former Pontiac owners are jumping ship, and going with other manufacturers.

If you want to move cars, people have to think they are getting good value relative to the competition. Competition that includes things like foot well lighting, glove box locks, and especially ABS and traction control, as standard. These are all things that customers EXPECT in cars, even back in 2000. Now in 2012 you could never even sell a car without those things. Even economy cars have them now, and ABS/stability control are government mandated now.
This is the kind of garbage that caused GM to go bankrupt and kill Pontiac, saturn, Saab, and hummer. The $.05 per lamp x 30k cars adds up. they figured that the cost/benefit added up. did anyone choose a competitor car over a GA because it was missing footwell lights, a locking glove box, or any other missing basic feature? no.

oh, and that deck is a 1 DIN. 1 DIN is the standard size aftermarket radio. 1.5 DIN is the size of the opening.

You can't say this with any kind of certainty. You don't know what went through peoples minds when decided to buy one car over another. You also don't know what their motivations are or what is important to them. Many people are not "brand loyal" and are not automotive enthusiasts like some of us here. If they get an overall bad impression of a car, or if it gets a bad review in a magazine (and those mag writers WILL notice those things missing), then they won't buy that car.

Your statement is nothing but an opinion.
