This thread makes me miss my GA and taking it to car shows. People always asked questions on this car about knowing someone that has one just like it.

The half and half shots were great. Thanks to Rand for his help on this one.

Holy sht your paint was fked.

Also, every SC/T kit I've seen on coupes the side skirt cladding isn't level with the door cladding, is that just common?

Yes for most kits, You would have to push it up to get it to be even and it put stress on the underside of the rocker. This was one of the GM kits, first 50 kits GM made all did this. I wasn't comfortable with how the underside of the rocker was being pulled away from the car to line it up. I think the PFYC.com kits after they bought the molds from GM lined up well.

My old car was daily driven and sat outside all day everyday from June 2002 up until July of 2009. When I was at college my driveway had pine trees on both sides, so it sat under pine trees 9 months of the year getting sap and all kinds of **** on it. It held up surprisenly well considering the elements it has seen.

The afters made it look really bad, but here is what it looked like before the PC hit it with wool. The picture was far away but still shined some before I took it to Coupe's house.

Unless you attach sandpaper to it....no. As much as orange peel may seem to take away from a smooth finish, it also will hide smaller imperfections. Plus, it's downright scary sanding orange peel out, since most cars don't come with an incredibly thick clear coat from the factory (the restoration shows on TV that show sanding and buffing out clear coat put a ton of coats of clear on for that exact purpose, while a daily driver isn't painted for that reason).

yeah the PC wont fix orange peel. only wet sanding can do that. its a risk no doubt. is it worth it? well that depends if you know what your doing.

the PC can bring back the shine if you don't sand through the clear though. a cutting pad is a must. so is a good compound like Megs m105

i've never used anything other than meg's ultimate compound. hasn't failed me yet. it took the 13 years worth of swirls out of the GA's paint.

last weekend stewartfn18 and me discovered that spraying just a bit of water on the yellow cutting pad while using meg's ulti compound helped it work faster and better. I'm loving my PC 24747 so far (or whatever it's called)

now granted I've never used Megs ult compound but I know it doesn't have as much cutting power as M105. based on my 2500 grit wet sanding test that M105 will take out about 99% of the sanding marks. now granted in the test I didn't use ult compound but I did use some 3m compound which I just a little less aggressive then ult compound. and with the 3m I personally would do the whole car 2x.

this chart will help you determine how aggressive products are. with wet sanding you want something that's very aggressive.

http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/autopia/polish-chart.pdf

i'm not saying you cant use ult compound, or shouldn't, i'm just letting you know that m105 is made for taking sand marks out of the clear.

the PC is one of the best things I've ever bought. love the thing. taking paint from yeah it looks good to holy crap that looks amazing is a great feeling. right sleepy?

that's a really cool chart! thanks for the link.
i'm not about to take even 10,ooo grit wet sander to my paint. the orange peel ain't that big of a bother.

seriously though, can u imagine the swirls on a 13 year old red GA? after one treatment of meg's ultimate compound, it was better than NEW. then we topped it off with mothers 1-2-3 pre-cleaner/sealer+glaze/carnauba wax system. (forgot to mention we clay bar'd first of all)

yes sir I can. but only because I've done it a time or two. your right the results are amazing. yes it takes time, but it is more then worth it.

to be honest though restoring paint is the easy part. the hard part is keeping it up so you don't have to restore it for years to come. the 2 bucket method is really a big help with this.

I just used the two bucket method on my wheels yesterday and use it on every wash on my car now, once again though metal, appreciate the buff! car still looks flawless!
