aftermarket 2 DIN for 2005 GT

Hi gang

I bought a new radio off eBay for my car:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/201491067205...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I know its a Chinese made unit but I did not want to spend a lot of money. So anyway I am wondering if anyone else has installed a radio like this in there car?

1. the unit is a bit longer, not sure if I should hollow out the pod some more to get as flush as possible

2. Steering wheel controls, I bought a GM2000A connector/chime kit. Looking to connect the steering wheel volume, etc. and I believe I need an addition ASWC unit for this as well, yes?

3. Mounting, had to buy a mounting kit for it, the one that comes does not work in the Grand AM.

I will take pics for the install with any info I can provide, just wondering if anyone has any ideas or experience on this now. thanks!

Ok so I guess no one here has replaced their 2 DIN Monsoon? That's ok. I will say I have most of the wiring figured out. I plugged it in this morning and WOW its AWESOME! Sound is great, started watching Star Wars Ep. 4 on it, amazing!

Anyway, the last issue I have is the steering wheel controls. This radio has 2 wires, key1 and key 2. Has anyone hooked up an any aftermarket radio and got it working with the steering wheel controls? It looks like I need to get an ASWC-1 unit to get them working. But I am not sure if I need to hook up both key1 and key 2. I read online that it may not be even needed.

Just wondering if anyone here setup any aftermarket radio and got it working with the controls. If so, how please? Thanks!

Ok well I called tech support for the ASWC-1 interface and I do need to install it for steering wheel controls to work.

This is a nice radio, just setup wireless on it and I can browse the web, etc. Really neat stuff. Now I have to shoe horn it into the car. Just waiting for an installation mount kit and need to get a dermal to open up the back. I will post pics if anyone is interested.

Sure lets see it when you are done. Whenever I get around to a new HU I want the steering wheel controls to work, otherwise they would be pointless!

will do. just getting all the parts together now. Plus a dremel to cut out some stuff in the back of the pod so it will fit.

I would be curious of the final result, might be something for me to think of down the road

Well I finally got the radio in. I had to cut away the black plastic piece with the whole in it for some room. I had to put in the chime kit and ASWC-1 for steering wheel control.

Drawbacks:
Radio is long so it sits out a bit, I would have gotten one that was a bit more shallow like I did for my 99 Wrangler. But I am happy.
The steering wheel control setup with the ASWC-1 is a bit flakey, not all buttons work, just volume up and down, seek up and down, mute and band. That too is ok.

Anyway, I have a reverse camera, internet, 32GB memory card loaded with all my fav songs. I now have an Android radio in 3 of my cars, JEEP Wrangler, 89 Formula 350 and now my 05 Grand Am. Pretty damn cool!
