Autometer Gauge Lighting Instructions
So you've got your gauges installed, but you want to hook them up such that they'll:
  1. Light up only when the dash lights come on, and
  2. Dim when you dim the dash lights via the dimmer dial to the left of the steering wheel

How do you do this? This page tells you how!

There are two connections you need to make: ground and dimmer. First we'll connect the dimmer power connection.

Using a flat blade screwdriver, gently pry up the headlight control switch panel.

Gently remove the wiring harness from the dimmer switch.  With the harness removed, I used an inline wire tap to connect a 14 gauge wire lead to the dimmer circuit.  The dimmer circuit is the GRAY wire in the harness.  I then ran that wire up to the gauge pod and connected the lead to the white wires on the gauge lamps.

All that's left now is the ground. I used a connector and wire right under the bolt that connects the dash frame to the car's chassis, because there is already exposed metal there, and it was very convenient. Choose a good ground anywhere you feel comfortable, and connect the ground to your gauge(s).

Depending on which gauges you order, you might want to change the lamps to red to match the red of your dashboard.  The Autometer gauges come with red "condoms", but they don't match that well.  So I saw these Wagner 194R's that are direct replacements only they're red.  These match very well on the Phantom Gauges.

That's it!
